Bariatric Plastic Surgery Statistics

Due to the weight loss success rates of bariatric surgeries, such as gastric banding (eg. lap band), and gastric bypass (eg. roux-en-y), as well as the development of keyhole surgical techniques such as laparoscopic stomach surgery, statistics show that there has been an increasing demand for post-bariatric procedures performed by plastic surgeons.

Statistics Show Increased Demand for Loose Skin Removal

After massive weight loss, such as that experienced after gastric bypass, patients can be left with large folds of loose skin and fat. This excess tissue can be treated by several plastic surgery procedures which according to latest statistics are booming.

Statistics on Weight-Loss Related Plastic Surgeries

  • 127 percent increase in lower body lifts to 10,964 procedures
  • 109 percent increase in thigh lifts to 8,806 procedures
  • 68 percent increase in upper arm lifts to 10,595 procedures.

Laparoscopic or open bariatric surgery, such as gastric banding or bypass is not an easy solution to morbid obesity and weight loss. It is a serious surgical procedure, involving health risks. To produce lasting weight loss it requires a long-term patient commitment to eating a healthy diet and following a regular program of physical exercise. Life-long use of nutritional supplements may also be necessary. So, before deciding, discuss your options fully with your doctor. © 2003-2012 Bariatric-Surgery.Info - Terms - Contact - Information - Resources - Add URL
