Cosmetic Surgery Procedures

The operations and procedures known as cosmetic surgery are a branch of plastic surgery. Cosmetic surgeries are typically performed to improve body contouring by excising surplus skin, fat and tissue, and tightening muscles.

Types of Cosmetic Surgery

Here is a list of the main types of cosmetic surgeries and procedures:

Complete Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
During this body contouring procedure, excess body fat and skin is removed from above and below the belly button. Muscles are tightened and the belly button is re-positioned. See: Full Tummy Tuck

Mini-Abdominoplasty (Mini-Tummy Tuck)
During this smaller plastic surgery operation, surplus fat and skin are taken from below the belly button, the muscles are tightened but the belly button is not re-positioned. See: Mini-Tummy Tuck

Endoscopic Abdominoplasty
During this minimally invasive abdominal procedure a small camera is used, and smaller incisions are made. Muscles are not tightened as much as in regular abdominoplasty. See Endoscopic Abdominoplasty

Other Cosmetic Abdominal Surgeries
Reverse Abdominoplasty
Vertical Scar Abdominoplasty

Abdominal Dermolipectomy
During this operation, body fat is removed from above and below the belly button, which is re-positioned, but the muscles are not tightened. Dermolipectomy is for patients who have a higher level of skin laxity than mini-tummy tuck candidates. See: Abdominal Dermolipectomy

Abdominal Liposuction (Lipoplasty)
For patients with excess fat but good skin and muscle tone, plastic surgeons often recommend liposuction alone. This typically involves making two tiny incisions in the pubic hair area and one inside the navel are used. See: Abdominal Lipoplasty

Laparoscopic or open bariatric surgery, such as gastric banding or bypass is not an easy solution to morbid obesity and weight loss. It is a serious surgical procedure, involving health risks. To produce lasting weight loss it requires a long-term patient commitment to eating a healthy diet and following a regular program of physical exercise. Life-long use of nutritional supplements may also be necessary. So, before deciding, discuss your options fully with your doctor. © 2003-2012 Bariatric-Surgery.Info - Terms - Contact - Information - Resources - Add URL
