The Roux-en-Y stomach bypass surgery helps you reduce weight in three ways.

1. You eat less. The new small stomach pouch means you feel full after eating just a small amount of food.

2. Your food appetites change. After surgery, your body will not easily tolerate foods that are high in sugars and fats. You'll find these foods may make you physically uncomfortable.
