Dr. Mary Estakhri
Dr. Yen-Chung Andrew Lee

The surgeons operating at CSA Bariatrics are committed to excellence and performing surgery that will ultimately result in the best outcomes for patients. Surgeons use the newest and most innovative techniques and equipment and are highly skilled in bariatric procedures. Each surgery is initially approached with the intent of being performed laparoscopically. Laparoscopic surgery requires only very small half-inch incisions instead of eight to ten inch incisions.

Types of Obesity Surgery Performed

1. Laparoscopic Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass
2. Laparoscopic Lap-Band

The Lap-Band© procedure restricts the intake of food by causing the esophagus to become narrower. A silicone device called a band is placed at the junction where the esophagus and stomach meet. The band is connected to a device called an access port. The port is placed in the muscle of the abdominal wall, where it can be felt but not seen. The circumference of the band can then be increased or decreased by injecting a saline solution into the port. This provides an element of control that does not exist in other bariatric surgeries.

Laparoscopic or open bariatric surgery, such as gastric banding or bypass is not an easy solution to morbid obesity and weight loss. It is a serious surgical procedure, involving health risks. To produce lasting weight loss it requires a long-term patient commitment to eating a healthy diet and following a regular program of physical exercise. Life-long use of nutritional supplements may also be necessary. So, before deciding, discuss your options fully with your doctor. © 2003-2008 Bariatric-Surgery.Info - Terms - Contact - Information - Resources - Add URL
