Dr. Helmut Schreiber is one of the leading bariatric surgeons in the
country. He has performed more than 1,700 bariatric surgeries since 1979
and is recognized as a pioneer in the field. He is widely known for developing
revolutionary approaches to bariatric surgery, including the ring gastropexy.
He also helped lead the way in the Roux-en-Y surgical procedure, which
today is endorsed by the National Institutes of Health for its long-term
effectiveness.

Dr. I.M. Sonpal is a Program Surgeon in the Cleveland Center for Bariatric
Surgery. Having performed more than 1,300 open bariatric surgeries, Dr.
Sonpal is a leader in this surgical procedure
Linda Patterson, M.D., FACS
Dr. Linda Patterson is a Program Surgeon at the Cleveland Center for Bariatric
Surgery and a general surgeon. Dr. Patterson has performed more than 600
open bariatric procedures to date.
Aviv Ben-Meir, M.D.
Dr. Aviv Ben-Meir joined the Hospitals surgical team as the Director
of Minimally Invasive Surgery, introducing laparoscopic gastric bypass
surgery to the Center. He has performed more than 750 laparoscopic bariatric

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
St. Vincent Charity Hospital has sponsored the development of the Cleveland
Center for Bariatric Surgery, the largest multidisciplinary program of
its kind for the surgical treatment of morbid obesity in Northeastern
Ohio. Since its inception in 1997 the surgical team has performed more
than 4,000 surgical procedures.
At St. Vincent Charity Hospitals Cleveland Center for Bariatric
Surgery (CCBS), surgeons perform the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure
the only procedure endorsed by the National Institutes of Health
for long-term effectiveness.
Laparoscopic, or Minimally Invasive, Surgery
Some patients qualify for a minimally invasive version of the Roux-en-Y
gastric bypass procedure performed at the Cleveland Center for Bariatric
