Weight Loss Surgeons

Dr. Brian Quebbemann is among the most experienced surgeons in the country performing minimally invasive gastric bypass and Lap-Band® procedures. He performs 98% of weight-loss procedures laparoscopically.

Dr. Dallal has performed hundreds of complex laparoscopic bariatric surgeries. He completed the year-long Mark Ravitch/Leon C. Hirsch fellowship in minimally invasive bariatric surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, one of the most prominent training programs in the country.

Types of Gastric Banding/Bypass Performed

1. Lap-Band Surgery
2. Gastric Bypass
3. Laparoscopic Duodenal Switch

To date, 100% of all bariatric surgery performed at Huntington Beach Hospital has been done laparoscopically. We offer the Lap Band surgery, the laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery and the laparoscopic duodenal switch.

Lap-Band (Adjustable Gastric Banding)
The adjustable gastric band has several definite advantages. First, no cutting or stapling of the stomach is required. Second, it is adjustable. Third, it can generally be removed or modified using minimally invasive surgery. Fourth, it is the only bariatric surgery procedure that can occasionally be done as an outpatient.

Gastric Bypass
The most common surgical procedure used for weight loss in North America is the gastric bypass surgery. The gastric bypass and mini gastric bypass creates a small upper stomach pouch, which restricts food intake to one or two ounces, and also bypasses most of the stomach and a small portion of the upper intestines. Gastric bypass has been the “Gold Standard” for weight loss surgery in America.

Biliopancreatic Diversion with a Duodenal Switch
The BPD-DS stands for biliopancreatic diversion with a duodenal switch, also called simply “The Switch.” This operation and its modifications have been widely performed for more than 35 years in Europe with excellent long-term studies and results. Of the three main operations listed here, this operation is the only operation that cause a significant amount omalabsorption.

Candidates for the operation follow the same criteria for all bariatric operations, however, we offer this operation generally for patients whose BMI is greater than 50.

Laparoscopic or open bariatric surgery, such as gastric banding or bypass is not an easy solution to morbid obesity and weight loss. It is a serious surgical procedure, involving health risks. To produce lasting weight loss it requires a long-term patient commitment to eating a healthy diet and following a regular program of physical exercise. Life-long use of nutritional supplements may also be necessary. So, before deciding, discuss your options fully with your doctor. © 2003-2008 Bariatric-Surgery.Info - Terms - Contact - Information - Resources - Add URL
