Types of Weight Loss Surgery Performed

1. Roux Y Gastric Bypass
2. Silastic Ring Vertical Banded Gastroplasty
3. Gastric Banding (Lap-Band)

Roux Y Gastric Bypass
When success is defined as "the most weight loss, kept off for the longest period of time," the Roux-Y Gastric Bypass is among the operations that fulfill this goal without producing major malnutrition. We are now performing this operation using the open surgical approach and the minimally invasive, Laparoscopic approach, and it has become the favored weight management operation in the U.S.

Silastic Ring Vertical Banded Gastroplasty
The Silastic Ring Vertical Banded Gastroplasty is an operation that functions by restricting the rate and amount of food that a person can eat. There are four rows of staples placed parallel to the strongest sidewall of the stomach, making it difficult for the small resulting stomach pouch to expand.

Gastric Banding
This new operation (new in U.S.) is not the same as a Gastric Bypass. In Europe for the past nine years, over 80,000 Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Bands have been performed. It is now the favorite weight control procedure performed outside the U.S., and was approved in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration in June 2001.

The Surgical Weight Control Center of Nevada has been helping severely overweight people since 1989.

Laparoscopic or open bariatric surgery, such as gastric banding or bypass is not an easy solution to morbid obesity and weight loss. It is a serious surgical procedure, involving health risks. To produce lasting weight loss it requires a long-term patient commitment to eating a healthy diet and following a regular program of physical exercise. Life-long use of nutritional supplements may also be necessary. So, before deciding, discuss your options fully with your doctor. © 2003-2008 Bariatric-Surgery.Info - Terms - Contact - Information - Resources - Add URL
