American Society of Plastic Surgeons

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is the largest plastic surgery specialty organization in the world. Founded in 1931, the society is composed of board-certified plastic surgeons who perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

ASPS Mission Statement

The mission of ASPS is to advance quality care to plastic surgery patients by encouraging high standards of training, ethics, physician practice and research in plastic and cosmetic surgery. The society promotes patient safety by requiring its members to operate in accredited surgical facilities that have passed rigorous external review of equipment and staffing. The society works in concert with the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation (PSEF), founded in 1948, which supports research and educational programs for plastic and cosmetic surgeons.

Information About Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery

ASPS publishes numerous informational brochures and maintains this web site to provide public education about plastic surgery, including news about the latest surgical advances and operative techniques and details of specific surgical procedures, including how to prepare for surgery, the types of anesthesia used and how long recovery takes. ASPS publishes answers to frequently asked questions about plastic surgery and statistics, including the average costs of various procedures.

Qualified Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Only members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons may display the ASPS logo. This symbol of excellence in plastic surgery is what to look for when deciding on a surgeon. It tells you that you are choosing a physician who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada important credentials.

Laparoscopic or open bariatric surgery, such as gastric banding or bypass is not an easy solution to morbid obesity and weight loss. It is a serious surgical procedure, involving health risks. To produce lasting weight loss it requires a long-term patient commitment to eating a healthy diet and following a regular program of physical exercise. Life-long use of nutritional supplements may also be necessary. So, before deciding, discuss your options fully with your doctor. © 2003-2008 Bariatric-Surgery.Info - Terms - Contact - Information - Resources - Add URL
